Tunisia's minister for women is drawing attention to an occurrence in which a woman was raped by two police officers, and then charged with indecency along with her fiance. Hmida, the lawyer of the victim, is arguing that the governing Islamist Ennahda party should be responsible for making acts like this illegal. If found guilty of the charge, they could serve up to six month in prison; human rights organizations are working to get the charges dropped.
I read this article, I am not sure whether to facepalm or smack someone on the head. Charged with indecent exposure for being in a immoral position. Unless shown what the position was, there really should be no need for this story.
ReplyDeleteIs this for real?? did the policemen accused of rape say they found the couple in an "immoral position"cause it never specifies, I think it is ridiculous that the charge ever came up but I also think it is ridiculous that it is being used to down play a very serious offense by a public servant who's job is to keep things like that from happening.
ReplyDeleteThis is a good example of the subjugation and animosity women live and experience in Islamic countries, where their rights are often denied and continuously are oppressed by men. Long live the WEST...
